There has been a lot of talk over the last year of how drones have the potential to change the world. So much talk in fact, that drones have become increasingly popular in homes and businesses all over the world.
However, did you know there are actually many different kinds of drones out there? That’s right, getting on the “drone train” isn’t just a one size fits all ordeal. For example, there are mini drones and large drones, long range drones, drones made for durability and more.
But what exactly does this mean? Why are there so many different types of drones and which kind of drones are used for which purposes?
Well, to start, quite a few versions of drones — specifically long range — are being used to change multiple industries.
Take retail for example. Online stores like Amazon will soon be able to offer a system of delivering a customer’s packages via the use of drones. That means a faster delivery time for everyone, not to mention it is just really cool!
To that end, there is even talk of various companies (Domino’s in particular), using drones to deliver food orders, with the idea being the food would reach it’s destination faster, keeping the food itself both hotter and fresher.
There are significant cost advantages for businesses converting their delivery model from a labor intensive process to a machine-automated process as well. Drones do not need training, never call in sick, and capacity fluctuations can easily be transferred from location to location.
That’s not the only way drones have the potential to change things though.
Drones also allow for better news coverage, flying over and into areas which can be difficult for reporters to get to, or areas that are simply too dangerous (like war zones). Thus leading to a more informed world.
Furthermore, drones can be used to help save lives! Recently, Alec Moment — a Belgian engineering graduate — developed what is being called an “Ambulance Drone”. This drone will not only fly into an emergency situation, getting there faster than an ambulance could, it will also be equipped with life saving medical items. Items such as a defibrillator, essential emergency medical tools, and a speaker/microphone which would be connected to a medical professional who could issue instructions.
Drones are also helping out with agriculture. I’m talking drones being able to take water and soil samples on a far more regular basis and with a wider range than ever before. Also, drones fitted with infrared technology are allowing farmers to see the overall progress of growth, ensuring that their irrigation systems are working properly and more.
Finally, drones are just awesome for you personally.
With your own personal drone you can take incredible pictures you wouldn’t otherwise have been able to get on your next family vacation. Also, you’ll have a great new way to record your stunts, say if you are an avid skateboarder. Not to mention they are just a blast to fly around!
Now you know a little bit about how drones have the potential to change all sorts of areas of the world. However, it does need to be noted that with drone use also comes the need to be aware of the different regulations surrounding them. For example, you cannot fly a drone within a five mile proximity of an airport, and if you do you could be facing a very hefty fine.
That’s no reason not to get a drone though! Just make sure you read up and learn all the different regulations for drone use in your area and you’ll be good to go! Also, if you’re looking for a particularly unique drone, maybe one you can build yourself and use with your kids, be sure to check out the new drones from LEGO, because they are pretty awesome too.
