Domesticated animals are a funny thing. Sure, they are “domesticated” in many ways, but they’re still animals. Leave them home alone for too long and you’ll find a few things chewed up. You may even find a present waiting for you in the form of warm, gooey poo.
Most pets tend to act up when they’re not stimulated enough. Even if you spend a lot of time at home, they can react to sedentary lifestyles especially if you have a breed of dog that’s used to running around or being busy. There are a lot of different solutions for dealing with this sort of thing, one of them being a smart toy.
A prime example is GOMI, a new interactive smart ball for your pet. It can help provide both entertainment and varying forms of activity, whether you’re home or not.
What is GOMI?
GOMI is great for entertaining dogs, cats and probably a few other pets too.
Up to 40 percent of dogs experience anxiety, which includes feelings of stress and loneliness. Not to mention, occupied owners that spend a lot of time away can mean that animals spend a lot of time sitting around, doing a whole lot of nothing. That leads to obesity, among other adverse health effects. The way to combat this is obviously to keep them occupied, active and entertained. That’s exactly where GOMI comes into play.
GOMI is a smart, interactive sphere that is capable of autonomous movement. It is both safe and durable for pets, and allows for remote monitoring and controls — meaning you can play with your pets even when you’re not home.
There are a number of devices that offer this kind of interactivity, namely feeders and smart treat dispensers. The difference, however, is that GOMI was explicitly designed to keep your pets active and healthy. It features both autostart and autostop functions, allowing the ball to roll around in “irregular” patterns to keep your pet moving. Not only does it keep them physically active, but it also helps stimulate their mind as they chase after the GOMI ball.
Another unique feature is something called “two-way interactions,” where the GOMI reacts to what your pet is doing. When a dog bites the ball, for example, it will vibrate in response. When the dog drops it, GOMI will roll away and escape on its own furthering the play session.
Meanwhile, the app keeps you clued-in to what you’re pet is doing while you’re away. When you get home you can also see how your pet(s) played with the ball and for how long.
What Else Can GOMI Do?
Cats and dogs of all sizes can enjoy GOMI, even the big ones!
Some of the other great things GOMI offers are:
- App-enabled play and remote monitoring
- Wireless charging
- 80-minutes of playtime on a single charge
- 100 percent waterproof design which means it’s easy to clean too
- FDA-Certified Polycarbonate coating prevents damage from your pet’s teeth
- Works indoors and out
Where Can I Get One?
As you can see, there’s a lot crammed inside the little ball and that makes for some great fun!
GomiLabs is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the project, but you’ll be happy to hear it’s already successful. Backers have currently pledged over $130,000, well beyond the initial goal of $5K. That means this project is definitely going to be funded, and if all goes well the first units will ship to backers sometime in August 2019. If you want to pre-order your GOMI, simply support the project via Kickstarter. If you’d rather wait for the retail-ready product, you should start seeing them for sale sometime after the August release.
