Package theft is quite common these days. According to a report from August Home and research firm Edelmen Intelligence, over 11 million homeowners have had their packages stolen. About 74 percent of those stolen packages are taken during the day when the homeowner is at work, and they hold an average value between $50 and $100.
There are ways to protect your packages, however.
If you outfit your home with a smart lock and smart video doorbell, you can use the two devices to interact with parcel couriers when they arrive. Essentially, the setup allows you to unlock your front door and have the courier place the package inside your home, even when you’re miles away. It’s a super convenient solution and it definitely keeps your packages safe, but what if you don’t want to give a stranger access to your home?
You can either have the courier place your package on the doorstep, leaving vulnerable and in the open, or they can take it to a local delivery point — but you’ll need to find time to pick it up.
Wouldn’t it be so much better if there were an easier, secure way to store that package until you can get home and retrieve it? That’s exactly the idea behind iDoorBox, the “world’s first” alarm-enabled, foldable, portable and secure package delivery box.
What Is iDoorBox?
iDoorBox sits just outside your home and provides a safe storage space for deliveries and packages.
The iDoorBox is, well, a smart storage box for packages and deliveries. You simply place the box on your front doorstep and lock it in place using an included padlock. The box has another lock on it that can be engaged to keep anything stored within secure. The box stays open, unlocked and accessible until something is stored within.
When package couriers arrive, they just drop whatever they’re delivering into the box — no code or key needed — and then press a lever to engage the lock. If you have multiple deliveries during the day, you can include instructions for the courier that includes a security code to drop the additional packages in. If your purchase is through Amazon then the couriers will automatically receive the unlock code to access the box.
iDoorBox also breaks down and folds up for easy, out-of-sight storage.
As soon as you arrive home, you can take the packages out of the box and break it down for easy, out-of-sight storage. When you need it again you simply unfold the box and place it back on your doorstep.
The exterior is weatherproof and can withstand a variety of conditions including rain, snow, hail, and even extreme heat. Better yet, it keeps your packages stored within safe from weather conditions too. No more wet boxes or soggy packages when you get home.
The box is also equipped with a 120-decibel alarm that sounds when its tampered with or when someone tries to force open the box. The alarm also has a secure housing to prevent further tampering.
Where Can I Get It?
Couriers need only drop in the package, close the box and engage the lock.
The iDoorBox team has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the project. The good news is that the monetary goal has already been met, with over $20,000 raised and plenty of time left. Early backers will receive their first units sometime in October 2019 if everything goes as planned. The iDoorBox is available and ships to anywhere in the world, not just the U.S.
