Wooden guitars and ukuleles are considered to be some of the best in terms of design. Unfortunately, they aren’t the most durable especially during travel. Over time, and after being exposed to certain conditions, the wood may warp or change. Temperature and humidity, for example, can alter the soundboard, body and neck which changes the sound they produce.
KLŌS Guitars has come up with a solution for this problem, and it involves manufacturing their instruments out of incredibly durable carbon fiber.
How Are KLŌS Guitars Different?
KLŌS’ guitars are durable, temperature resistant, and work great just about anywhere.
For starters, KLŌS’ guitars and ukuleles are made almost entirely out of carbon fiber. This definitely affords them more durability than your average instrument, but KLŌS claims they will “last a lifetime.”
The company’s full size dreadnought guitar also includes a fully detachable neck. This makes transporting and carrying the instrument so much easier. The materials used are also lightweight which services the travel idea. Musicians are known to move about so that’s always a plus. And the instruments are temperature resistant and work just fine in a variety of environments, including hot, dry, cold and humid. That makes them great even for outdoor activities like camping, international travel, or chilling on a beautiful Caribbean beach.
The design and composition also provides a unique acoustic sound, something that KLŌS is incredibly proud of.
What Models Are Available?
As you can see, there are many styles available.
KLŌS is offering both guitars and ukuleles, each in varying forms. For example, you can choose between an acoustic full size guitar, or an acoustic full size electric guitar. Obviously, the latter can be connected to an amp for live playback at higher volume levels. On top of all that, you can upgrade to a deluxe version of each instrument which includes even more features. Just so you have an idea of what’s different, the deluxe model guitar has a Fishman Kula onboard preamp, ratio tuners, 1/4″ output jack and D’Addario Fluorocarbon strings. Talk about bad-ass.
You can choose from several different colors like red, orange, purple, green, blue and more.
Where Can I Buy One?
The KLŌS’ guitars include a detachable neck which makes them super portable.
Currently, KLŌS Guitars is raising funds via Kickstarter through an active campaign. The funding goal of $15K has already been surpassed, by far, but there’s still plenty of time to back the project if you’re interested. Prices vary, and they are determined by the model instrument you choose. Many are offered at a discount through the Kickstarter campaign. For instance, if you pre-order an Acoustic Ukulele it’s $449, which is $134.95 off the $584 retail price. Additional tiers include an acoustic electric ukulele, acoustic full size guitar, and of course an electric guitar.
