One inherent problem with backpacks is that your belongings are not always secure. It sounds paranoid, but even while wearing a pack, depending on the seal, thieves can easily reach inside and take your valuables. Put the bag down on the ground to rest and it’s suddenly more vulnerable. There are also instances where a thief will slice open the pack and pick through the items that fall out — they’ll either cut the strap or slice through the bottom of the bag.
It’s important to have a bag or travel pack that is secure, even more so if you’re traveling abroad. Turn your attention to the LOCTOTE Cinch Pack, which is being hailed as the “world’s most secure” backpack.
What is the LOCTOTE Cinch Pack?
The LOCTOTE Cinch Pack certainly lives up to its title, with a robust selection of security features.
LOCTOTE is the “most practical and secure backpack ever,” which is certainly a lofty claim. Why is it so secure, you ask?
For starters, the entire exterior of the bag is “surrounded” by slash resistant fabric. In comparison to similar bags, it doesn’t used paneled sections but encompasses the entire pack. That will prevent, say, an assailant from rushing up to you, slashing open the bag and making off with some of the goods that fall out in the ensuing chaos.
In addition, the bag has stab-proof seams and slash-resistant straps, as well. So this thing is an absolute beast when it comes to propelling blade attacks, at least against it’s own shell.
It will lock shut to prevent pickpocketing, similar to secure luggage, and it can also be secured to fixed objects. If you’re out somewhere, you can lock it to your chair, table, or something similar to keep it in place.
Finally, it has built-in RFID protection to stave off identity theft.
What Else Can It Do?
LOCTOTE looks great, and there’s almost no trace of the anti-theft features.
Besides looking great — it doesn’t look like an anti-theft-focused bag at all — there are several additional features that just make LOCTOTE all the more promising.
- It’s water-resistant thanks to an industrial water and stain repellant coating
- It has stainless steel grommets, a double steel wire reinforced strap, a quick-clip carabiner, and a solid brass combination lock
- A hidden “easy-access” exterior pocket protected by a YKK Aquaguard zipper
- Two high-capacity water bottle pockets, one on each side
- A slide hook for the main strap that doubles as a bottle opener
- A laptop pocket that can hold devices up to 15.6-inches in size
All in all, the pack is able to hold a total of 22 liters, which is quite sizeable for any backpack let alone one that’s so minimal. The LOCTOTE Cinch Pack is about 20 inches tall, 13 inches wide and 6 inches deep, which is ideal to lug around on day trips.
Where Can I Get One?
The straps have a double steel wire reinforced core with UHMWPE webbing, which means they are definitely slash-resistant.
Recently, the company launched an IndieGoGo campaign to fund the project where you could pre-order a pack. Early prices are about 22 percent off, with a single bag going for $185 despite a retail price of $239. There are also bundles for two, four and eight cinch packs respectively. The campaign was a huge success, raising 1040% of the initial goal, at over $200,000 total, well beyond the $20,000 set.
The first shipments are expected to go out sometime in March, 2019 — but to early backers. The bag should be available to everyone else shortly.
