Towels tend to suck, at least over time. As you use them more and more they lose their level of comfort, and that’s true across a broad spectrum from cheap to expensive. Obviously, the cheaply made towels are going to be less comfortable and last for shorter spans, that’s not the point. No one likes a thin, scratchy towel that leaves you feeling damp after use.
Apparently, the Sento Cloud towel is the answer to that problem. David Hothway, a renowned fabric maker, has referred to it as the “Rolls-Royce of bathroom towels.”
It has many names, the Sento Cloud, Cloud 2 or Sento Towel 2 but they all reference an exceptional experience, comprised of premium materials, superior technology composition and high-end Japanese craftsmanship.
What Is the Sento Cloud Towel 2?
It looks like a towel, that much is obvious. But it’s created with “painstaking attention to detail” and offers incredible quality.
At a glance, it’s admittedly difficult to discern the difference between Sento’s Cloud Towel 2 and other similar fabric or cloth towels. What makes Sento Cloud different is the sum of its parts. It’s larger than most towels, absorbs up to three times its total weight, dries three times faster, and exudes style. It honors a minimalist design, with zero-twist yarns and 100% Japanese cotton. Despite it’s appearance it also feels thick and plush against the skin. Where most towels would leave you feeling slightly damp or even wet, this one leaves you feeling fresh and dry.
More importantly, the entire surface of the towel is anti-bacterial which means it can retain that fresh, clean scent. Strange and musty odors tend to build-up over time with comparable towels, especially if they’re allowed to sit for a time.
How Is the Sento Cloud Made?
Sento Cloud has zero-twist yarns which results in a soft, super-fluffy fabric that is indicative of a luxurious hotel or spa.
Hearing what the towel offers and what it can do is great, but it doesn’t necessarily inspire trust. How did Sento achieve these properties and traits, for example?
The Sento team explains it best:
“Sento’s premium zero twist design allows the natural cotton fibers to remain loose and fluffy. The intricate and time consuming process of working with zero twist fibers is very rewarding, as it yields towels unbelievably gentle and soft. The effortless elegance is quickly apparent to anyone who experiences the towel.”
Even though the Sento Cloud is made of 100% cotton, it doesn’t rely on the conventional twist-based make up of comparable towels. The cotton retains a fluffy, soft feel that honors the name “cloud” because it’s so comfortable and luxurious.
How Do I Get One?
The Sento Cloud is available in three colors: Dark Navy, White and Grey. More will be unlocked as stretch goals.
Sento is currently seeking funding via Kickstarter for the towel, where you can pre-order a batch of your own. For $42 or about €38 you can purchase a single bath towel. You can also get an entire set that includes one each of bath, hand, and face towels for $49 or €43. Of course, there are more bundles available with higher prices and increased towel counts. The first shipments are expected to go out to early backers by July, 2019.
If all goes well, the towels should be on sale for everyone shortly after.
