There are so many devices out there that come bundled with Google and Amazon’s voice assistants — Alexa and Google Assistant, respectively. But they certainly aren’t the only platforms available. There’s also Bixby, Samsung’s assistant, Siri via HomeKit that needs no introduction, and Microsoft’s Cortana among several others.
For the most part, if you choose a device or platform you’re relatively confined. That’s not the case at all with Jonson Controls’ GLAS thermostat, available from August 26th.
It comes with Cortana support baked in, of course, but it also works just fine with Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant.
What is the GLAS Smart Thermostat?
The GLAS smart thermostat from Johnson Controls’ is backed by Microsoft.
For starters, GLAS is a smart thermostat like NEST or Ecobee. It’s packing a beautiful and translucent OLED touchscreen that looks a bit futuristic.
As with most conventional thermostats you can adjust the temperature of your air system, check air quality and watch a neat animation in the background to indicate what’s happening. If the AC is cooling, for example, you’ll see vibrant blue waves floating around.
It also uses the built-in voice assistants to read-back information or even take commands.
Just look at that beautiful, translucent display. Yeah baby.
Over time, it will learn your habits and help you both conserve energy and save money by making smarter, more efficient adjustments. It’s worth noting this functionality is a staple of most smart thermostats.
You can pre-order the GLAS smart thermostat now or buy after launch for $319, which is definitely a bit higher than some of the other options on the market.
Higher price or not, it’s going to be hard to say no to that sexy face. So translucent, so vibrant, so vogue.
